Project Title and Abstract
Relations Among Students’ Motivation, Math Anxiety, and Math Achievement
In alignment with the National Study of Learning Mindsets (NSLM) goals to understand the conditions under which online growth mindset interventions are likely to be beneficial, the proposed study will focus on furthering the understanding of math anxiety in relation to the intervention. The proposed study has three goals: 1) to test the effect of the online growth mindset intervention on math anxiety; 2) to test whether pre-intervention individual differences change the strength of the effect of the online growth mindset intervention on math anxiety; and 3) to test whether the online growth mindset intervention and math interest moderate the strength and shape of the relationship between math anxiety and math achievement. Results will further our understanding of who benefits from the online growth mindset intervention, as well as our understanding of the relationship among students’ mindsets, math anxiety, and math achievement.
