Carissa Romero is a Co-Founder & Managing Director at Paradigm. She is also the Co-Founder of the Project for Education Research That Scales (PERTS) at Stanford University. She received a B.A. in Psychology from Emory University and a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Stanford University. Dr. Romero also serves as a consultant to the tech industry on how research on mindsets can be applied to increase diversity and inclusion in the sector.

As second-year doctoral students, Dr. Romero and Dr. Dave Paunesku co-founded PERTS to explore how the field might leverage the power of the Internet to scale up promising mindset interventions. PERTS works with schools, community colleges, and online education providers around the country to develop, test, and disseminate mindset programs and tools for teachers and parents. During her time at PERTS, Dr. Romero has given dozens of talks to educators, parents, and researchers across the country about mindsets. During this time, she has prioritized making connections outside of academia, forming relationships with practitioners and leaders in the education technology sector. As a result of these efforts, PERTS has been able to deliver and evaluate mindset interventions with hundreds of thousands of students in schools, colleges, and online learning environments across the country. These accomplishments have gained the attention of policymakers, funders, practitioners, and senior mindset researchers. In large part due to the work of PERTS, scaling up interventions is now a top priority of the mindset field.
